THE CHURCH, GAY RIGHTS AND SAME GENDER PARENTING
The Church has a position on personal choice matters of gay rights and government laws permitting same gender parenting. The Bible is very clear on such matters in the Christian Church.
The Pope consented the Church has no position on personal choice matters!.
Austria will soon enacted laws permitting same gender parenting!. Are such steps considered to be seismic shifts in global positions on Gay rights?.
Hence, are our collective morals declining, improving, or modernizing?. *
The Text Question
The Bible makes it clear that people have a right to make choices (Deutoronomy 30:19, Phillipians 1: 21-25, John 5:6). In Christianity you do not lose you right to choose. Paul had to choose between to die and be with Christ or to live and fulfill the gospel (Phillipians 1:21-25).
The Bible makes it clear that the Word of God is truth (John 17:17). 2Timothy 3:16-17 (Amplified Bible) makes it clear that “Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Bible makes it clear in Hebrews 10:25 that people must not forsake the assembly of the saints (which is church meeting) and Ephesians 4:11-16 makes it clear that the leaders in the church the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers have been given as gifts to the church by God for the equipping, training of the saints for the work of the ministry. The mindsets of the people will be changed, renewed as they receive the accurate teaching of God’s Word (Romans 12:2)
The Church has a responsibility to teach God’s Word to people so that their thinking is changed and they use God’s Word as truth and final authority (John 17:17) for correction, reproof, discipline and training of the saints. Where correction or chastisement is necessary it must be done in love as the Bible makes it clear that God chastises those that He loves (Hebrews 12:6).
This mandate must be carried out in a manner motivated by agape love of God. We must be steadfast and not depart from this faith in God. Faith in God comes from hearing God’s Word (Romans 10:17). The great generals of faith mentioned in Hebrews 11 all acted on their faith by doing God’s Word and for some of them it cost them their lives.
With this background it is very clear that the church has a position on matters of personal choice. The church must teach people to make right choices that agree with God’s Word. If a person so chooses to make choices that disagree with God’s Word, it is their right to do so and that is sin. If you genuinely love God you will not disagree with His Word but rather you will be a doer of His Word (James 1:22-25). There are negative consequences for not doing God’s Word.
God’s Word is very clear on the matter of gays. The Bible lists homosexuality as a sin (Romans 1:26-27, 1Corinthians 6:9-13, Leviticus 18:22-23, Leviticus 20:13) and consequently does not have any space to accord gays special rights. The practise of a gay lifestyle is not condoned at all in the Bible and there is no confusion on this matter. Whilst in many countries in this world the gay lifestyle is increasingly accepted as a normal, different sexual orientation to heterosexuality it is an unacceptable practise in the Bible. For a Christian the gay lifestyle is against God’s Word.
Condoning gays does not represent seismic shifts in positions on gay rights, it is simple proof of the ignorance of truth as contained in God’s Word and indicative of a culture based on preference rather than convictions. Christians must uphold their convictions based on the truth contained in God’s Word otherwise they will normalise the abnormal. The Bible makes it clear that homosexuality is not new otherwise it would not have been listed in the Bible as a sin. Even today it is still a sin according to God’s Word and it is a sign of immorality which has been around for a long time.
Having made this position clear, we must not hate gays but we must show them love and share God’s Word with accuracy. This will renew their mindsets and if they fully embrace God’s Word they will sooner or later gain understanding and stop their gay lifestyle. You must notice that the sin is listed among other sins (1Corinthians 6:9-13) We believe people can stop these sinful practises and change through the washing or renewing of such mindsets by the Word of God (Romans 12:2) and Christians must hold the same convictions on gays.
When it comes to the position of gay same sex parenting, this is not an acceptable practise in the Christian lifestyle. This practise promotes the idea that same sex parenting is normal, which in turn promotes the notion that same sex unions or “marriages” are normal. This is a contravention of the Christian faith.
In conclusion it is clear that morality based on preferences and not convictions results on compromises. However, even in today’s world despite many constitutions of many countries having normalised the abnormal Bible contradicting gay lifestyle and same sex parenting; many Christians are emboldened and rightly dividing the Word of God and in love showing that the gay lifestyle is a sin.
