Walid S Maani asked in Applied Sciences 1st Sep '16:Do we graduate doctors for primary health care or to put them on the road of research and specialization? Have the experiments of the WHO in advocating community oriented medical curricula failed? If a school graduates excellent doctors, why change the curriculum?
BRIAN MAKAMURE replied 1st Sep '16:
It should really depend on the needs of the country that trains the doctors. If they are in need of specialist doctors then their curriculum should reflect that. If not then it should reflect the need to just provide the primary health care that they need. Having said that, there will always be a need for primary health care doctors in every country. So train them as primary health care doctors then engage them according to your needs.View all replies to this question
